Transylvania

A bioregional movement connecting land, culture, and community

Image

Transylvania stands at a threshold. One of Europe's last wild landscapes, it holds ancient forests, thriving biodiversity, and communities that still remember how to live in rhythm with the land. Yet it also faces the pressures of extraction, emigration, and cultural erosion.

Regenerative Futures Transylvania (RFT) is a bioregional initiative catalysing the emergence of a regenerative economy and culture across this remarkable region. Anchored at Cobana Coliving in Zărnești, RFT weaves together a growing constellation of entrepreneurs, leaders,, researchers, organisations, and land projects.

The Pillars of our Work

Community: The Living Root System

RFT nurtures a community of practice — regenerative entrepreneurs, researchers, artists, and local pioneers who share knowledge, resources, and mutual support. Monthly gatherings, online circles, and spontaneous collaborations create a social mycelium that connects initiatives across the bioregion.

Consortium: Aligned Action at Ecosystem Level

Beyond individual projects, RFT facilitates consortium-level collaboration. By aligning action cycles and sharing resources — funding, expertise, networks — we amplify collective impact. The whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

Tracks: Structured Journeys of Development

The Regenerative Tracks programme offers immersive residencies for founders and changemakers at key inflection points. Combining accommodation at Cobana with coaching, mentorship, and peer support, Tracks provides the developmental container for regenerative leadership to emerge.

The Vision

We envision a Transylvania where:

  • Local and global voices blend in service of the land and its communities
  • Traditional ecological knowledge meets cutting-edge regenerative practice
  • Economic activity regenerates rather than extracts from natural and social systems
  • A new generation of planetary citizens emerges, rooted in place yet connected globally
