Blending Local Voices – Nomad Ecovillage & CEM Mountain Ecology Centre in Moieciu de Sus

We speak about blending global and local voices towards a regenerative future, so what local voices are we talking about? This is not an interview but a glimpse into one of the local collaborations that gives the regenerative future in Transylvania its roots.

Nomad Ecovillage and the Centre for Mountain Ecology (CEM) have started a collaboration that is quietly building something remarkable in the village of Moieciu de Sus.
They organise weekends where people can sign up to contribute to building an ecomuseum together; restoring, constructing, and shaping a living learning environment by hand. But the deeper work is connection, built through shared meals, Sunday hikes, and working side by side.

Michael Orleanu speaks with passion about what people take home from these weekends: skills in building and repairing, an understanding of how things are made, and an increasingly rich programme of workshops around permaculture and traditional food production. The mission is to weave together the traditional life of this region with the energy and curiosity that people bring from urban environments. It attracts many who come to Moieciu hungry for nature, community, and something real to do with their hands.

So what will come from this? Nobody really knows – and that’s the beauty of it. It is a story unfolding, with ideas already emerging, like Emilia Prodea of Nomad Ecovillage exploring how to revive her successful pop-up accommodation concept in the area.

At Cobana we are thrilled to have these rooted, hands-on community builders in our network, so we can connect their local wisdom with the global voices we are gathering through this series.

Are you building something regenerative in Transylvania or beyond? We would love to hear from you.
